Anti-Gun TX State Legislator Introduces Two Gun Control Bills - Firearms Policy Coalition

It's bad enough when one gun control bill is introduced in a state legislature.  It's worse when there are two gun control bills introduced by the same state legislator.  The cherry on top of this anti-gun legislative fantasy is that the state legislator introducing these bills isn't even physically in the Lone Star State. Texas State Rep. Ron Reynolds (D-27) has been all over the news lately for fleeing Texas, but he still has his eye on his gun control priorities, as he has introduced HB 54 (87-2) and HB 55 (87-2) for consideration in the second special legislative session.

HB 54 (87-2) focuses on the creation of certain criminal offenses concerning firearm sales at gun shows. It is well established that if you are an FFL and vending at a gun show, you are already required to perform a National Instant Background Check System (NICS) background check in order to complete the sale of a firearm.  So this bill's intent seems to be an attempt to go after those interested in a private sale of their personal property. Additionally, there are more protocols (and thus more potential penalties) for the actual gun show organizers as well.

HB 55 (87-2) creates a criminal offense for the unlawful possession or transfer of an "assault weapon".  What is the definition of an "assault weapon" in this bill, you ask? Well, it could be a litany of things since Rep. Reynolds' definition is about as broad as you can imagine.

I know that a lot of these Texas runaways are having a hard time right now. I mean they took it pretty hard when they were unable to prevent constitutional carry from becoming law.  However, if you can't even show up for your job, how do you expect people to listen to your demands for gun control? Tell your state legislators to OPPOSE these bills by clicking one of the red "No TX Gun Control" buttons in this email. You will be provided with a prewritten email that you are encouraged to edit and personalize prior to sending. The email will go directly to your specific state legislators upon sending!

We are grateful for the continued support and engagement we receive from gun rights advocates across the country.  If you haven't done so already, but would like to become an FPC member, just visit JoinFPC.org to join Firearms Policy Coalition's Grassroots Army! Let's keep up the Texas pro-gun winning streak by knocking these two bills out of consideration.
